What is the big deal about teaching students body safety? What is body safety? In elementary school students learn a lot about good touch and bad touch. As students get older they often put into situations that involve their peers. This requires even more education.
Students need to learn and understand what is harassment and sexual harassment. No is always an answer whenever it is given. Pictures are permanent even on snapchat. These are just a few of the examples of body safety for older students.

Teach students that their body belongs to them and no one else even when they have a significant other.
Students can say no, anytime! Help students learn how to say no.
It is hard to stay safe when you don’t know that something is inappropriate. Teach students the definitions of harassment, sexual harassment, assault, and rape.
Teach students how to set boundaries with their friends and significant others. If they know what their boundaries are they are able to stand up when someone is getting close or crosses the line.
Help students understand where they can go for help.
Teach students what predators are. As students get older the predator is not always the creepy person in the van handing out candy but instead many predators can be found online. Do students know how predators seek them out and how to protect themselves in a world online?
It is important for students to understand that if something happens to them, it is not their fault. Friends need to understand that being a good friend sometimes means telling an adult the secret your friend told you.
When students have an understanding of some of these concepts they have a better ability to protect themselves. They also learn what is and is not appropriate behavior and what the consequences can be for some of these behaviors.
